History

Green Acres Lakeside Resort was founded in 1945 on the north shores of crystal-clear St. Mary Lake. The resort is a ten-minute drive from the vibrant community of Ganges. Surrounded by the breathtaking natural wonder of the Island, it’s clear why guests return to this unique vacation resort every year!


All-year

We cater to individuals, couples, families, groups, as well as special events. Green Acres is a fabulous year-round getaway for both short and long term stays. The accommodations range from luxury log chalets set within lush forest to modern duplex cabins with spectacular nature views. Our charming vintage cabins are just a hop, skip, and a jump from the water’s edge. Wake to the sounds of the Pacific Loon and fill your lungs with fresh cedar-scented air. In the evenings, warm your hands and hearts by the crackling lake-side campfire or your private woodstove. Go ahead – we know you want to!

In the heart of Salt Spring Island

Green Acres features a boat dock, a floating dock, a variety of watercraft free for guests’ enjoyment (including canoes, kayaks, rowboats, paddle boats, and stand up paddle boards). We also have a beach volleyball and badminton court, an outdoor ping pong table, children’s playground, and lake-side chairs for lounging. Playing cards, games, and books are also available to borrow from our front office.

Our Accommodations

The chalets are all 2 bedrooms units and can comfortably sleep 4 guests. There is a king bed located up stairs in an open concept loft, and two twin beds located in a separate bedroom on the main level. Chalets have in floor heating and a wood burning fireplace, plus a 4 piece bath. An extra maximum of 2 guest can be accommodated using a pull out sofa bed for an extra fee. 

The cabins range from 1-2 bedrooms, perfect for 2-4 guests. Cabins have a queen bed, and if they are a 2 bedroom they have a separate bedroom with two twin beds. Most have a 3 piece bath.

Each unit features a full kitchen, private deck, BBQ, and wood stoves (except Cabin 12), and select units feature pull-out couches. See more on our accommodations page or let us assist you on our contact page.

Explore Salt Spring

Green Acres island resort is a short drive from the bustling little community of Ganges. Here, you will find Salt Spring’s famous Saturday Market (Apr. – Oct.). There you can stock up on delicious local treats, arts and crafts, and hear some great live music. Ganges is home to a variety of shops, galleries, gyms, restaurants, and cafes. Looking for a good book or forgot your swimming trunks? Want to pick up some watercolours so you can paint your view or fancy a yoga class? Ganges is just a stone’s throw away and has all you are looking for The towns of Vesuvius and Fulford Harbour are 10 and 30 minutes from Green Acres Lakeside Resort by car each. They are definitely worth the trip. Peppered across the island, you’ll find artist studios, farms and orchards open to the public, breweries and wineries, and a movie theatre.

Island Adventure Vacation

The spirit of adventure runs wild on this island! If you love to hike or mountain bike, trails of all levels and lengths abound in the stunning parks here. Be sure to check out trails like Mt. Maxwell, Ruckle Provincial Park, Channel Ridge, and Mt. Erskine. Alternatively, comb the beach at Burgoyne Bay or Fernwood for driftwood and seashell treasures washed ashore or catch a dreamy sunset at Southey Point. Fishing is prime on Salt Spring Island year-round, especially in Green Acre’s own St. Mary Lake, known for its abundance of trout and bass. Collecting oysters, clams, and mussels is also very popular here. Check seasonal availability with B.C. Fisheries. Whale watching, surf lessons, ocean kayaking, bird watching, and extraordinary nature photography are all at your fingertips. Relax Lakeside

It’s easy to unwind from the hustle of everyday life at Green Acres. We recommend starting the day by enjoying a steaming cup of joe on your private deck, while you listen to the sounds of local wildlife, or catch a glimpse of a bunny or deer. Read a great book on our dock, on the beach, or in a hammock. Paddle around the lake and reconnect with nature. Toast marshmallows at the campfire. Challenge your sweetheart to a board game on a rainy afternoon or watch for shooting stars with them on a breezy summer night. Salt Spring Island has a variety of luxury spas with wonderful treatments and relaxation packages. Yoga and pilates are also on offer at various gyms and studios and in the summer months, on our very own dock!

What vacation is complete without sampling some of the finest local fare? Options on Salt Spring Island include fine dining, food trucks, breweries, wineries, farmers markets, and specialty destinations for cheese, chocolate, ice cream, fudge, cider, fresh fish, kombucha, breads and pastries, honey, and coffee. Stock up at the local markets, shops, and farms for a picnic on a trail or at the beach, or tie on an apron in your fully-outfitted kitchen at Green Acres and let your culinary imagination soar. Some of our recommendations include brunch at Tree House Café, a sweet treat from Harlan’s Fine Chocolates (especially for s’mores!), flower chevre from Salt Spring Cheese Company, lavender-infused honey from Sacred Mountain Lavender, and all things caffeinated from Switchboard Café.
